Charing Cross Pier

Finally the pier has been removed - end of August 2006

The long running saga of Southwark Council vs Ms. Holmes, the owner of the Charing Cross Pier, has finally been concluded. Ms. Holmes had originally applied to establish the Charing Cross Pier as an arts venue, the permission for which was refused. It had been suspected that Ms. Holmes was living on the pier for a time, a use which was strictly forbidden and so began a long legal battle over several years to have the pier removed.

The Council's landlord powers enabled them to order her to move and replace her mooring with a pontoon.
